Kailash – Pilgrimage To The Mountain Of God Shankara – (2016) 5 stars

Run time: 54 minutes. This is a promotional travel video in a smaller sense, but an excellent documentary describing a month-long pilgrimage to the Mountain of the Hindu God Shankara / Shiva. It looks like quite an undertaking to accomplish this pilgrimage, but also a very interesting experience. There are numerous stops, and it is dangerous! Not only might your travel bus fall over the side of the road, but in some spots hard hats are required due to falling rocks, you might fall into Kali’s River, or you might run out of breath on the higher altitudes. On the upside, there are a number of cultural landmarks to be seen, including ancient Hindu temples, plus a very old Buddhist monastery, along with the remarkable landscape of holy mountains, lakes and rivers. At one point the travelers have Nepal right across the river, and toward the end they will cross into Tibet. Are you prepared to hike up not one, but several mountains to get to this place? As a bonus, this video features outstanding Hindu religious music.
